Assessing the Impact of Islamophobia on Resilience and Spiritual Coping in School-Age Muslim Youth: An Exploratory Study: C0- investigator on community research project in Chicago, IL.

The purpose of this study is to utilize a strengths-based approach to understanding the impact of Islamophobia on our community and youth. Despite the prevalence of Islamophobia and its understood link to psychological distress, little is known about resilience and protective factors against the harm of Islamophobia. The purpose of this study is to understand resilience in the face of Islamophobia for Muslim youth, which can inform strength-based interventions for Muslim communities. Building upon strengths of the Muslim youth and building resilience and spiritual coping can be an effective intervention is helping youth cope with Islamophobia. Results of this study can inform potential community-based interventions and education about resilience and coping for youth, as another tool to combat Islamophobia. This study is currently ongoing in Chicago, IL.

Indrani’s Light Foundation: Executive Administrator and Outreach Coordinator (Contract)

Indrani’s Light Foundation works to eradicate domestic violence by supporting front-line staff in domestic violence-focused services agencies and organizations all over the U.S. Supporting and training front-line staff will thereby increase effectiveness and level of care for domestic violence survivors. Mariam provides logistical and management support to increase organizational effectiveness, while furthering outreach and communication initiatives.
